When I was a little girl, Dad grew a lot of flowers in our fauji bungalow in Jaipur. From Larkspur , to Phlox to Calendulas, Ice plants, Hollyhocks , Dog Flowers, Dahlias, Pansies to Poppy’s one of my favourites, everything bloomed in our garden. There were rows and rows of seasonal flowers with bees & wasps buzzing all day and sounds of Parrots squawking.
It was an old bungalow with high ceilings that was later renovated & converted into an army mess but those were really the times. I have so many fond memories of that Bungalow. But most of the labour and sweat involved in the garden was courtesy the gardener, late Avataar bhaiya who was one of the most passionate gardener we ever came across. Working hard all day tilling the soil, plucking weeds to even growing wheat in the spare space , he did it all with his greener than green thumb. Everything he sowed flourished.
It was a sight to sit in the gardens every February until March for endless tea parties and soak in the most wonderful time of the year. This and many such memories make Spring my most favourite season way more than the popular Christmas season. If I could I would pause Spring forever !
But with global warming hitting us , weather now is unpredictable and no longer what it used to be, however February is still a happening month for many. Archies gallery in the 90’s possibly popularised Valentines in India and now as I hear its a very popular date to get married, people opt for the 14th of February to tie the knot. Men are under more pressure to make it special for the ladies on this day. So for those who romanticise this month or celebrate an occasion or are simply under the pressure of valentines and will buy a default last minute Red Rose bunch possibly year after year , this year I come to your rescue , here’s a curated list of some personal favourites that would make great gifts this season. At least I would be very ecstatic to receive these as a gift. (I hope he reads this blog)
And this list isn’t overly Red , I am not too much into Red anyways but it most definitely has an understated freshness of ‘Spring Summer’.
Soft pastels like Sage , Mint, Turquoise with a hint of Coral make a great Spring Summer Palette me thinks . I have personally been an old fan of Sage & Mint , I think they define that right amount of colour for me in a neutral home. There are also some Yellows & Mustards here to add cheer.
I think gifting is an art, making those who matter feel loved and important is definitely not something everyone gets right. And when it comes to gifting its important to know the person a bit , their tastes , likes , have they been looking out for something etc. Infact gifting to yourself is also an art but that discussion is for some other time .

Do you have a February occasion coming up. Are you looking to buy a gift for someone perhaps yourself. If you do buy something, most definitely add that bunch of beautiful Spring blooms from the local florist along. A loose hand tied bunch of seasonal blooms is still one of the best gifts one can give or get.
Signing off for the day to munch some Chakli (a yummy fried Indian snack).
