Today we help answer one of the most requested questions on my Instagram account that pops up every week. Where is that bench from , Where are the Chairs from ?
In all honesty it’s a very difficult question to answer but I will try.
Now except for our beds everything we have is locally made and customised to our liking and requirements. A few are even thrifted and collected one by one slowly over years. To elaborate on this we found local shops in Gurgaon , Jaipur and Jodhpur to make most of our Furniture over the past decade or more. Some were skilled furniture workshops , some high end export firms and some were regular neighbourhood carpenters and with a little research , effort , guidance and tons of patience everyone delivered exactly what we wanted.
There was a definite learning curve and each time I got better and confident with time but this blog isn’t exactly about doing that because frankly today who has the time, energy and patience for this.
We lived in Delhi for a decade and off course Jaipur is home so is Jodhpur and if you happen to live in any of these cities there are plenty of local stores. Just stroll around MG Road in Delhi , Civil Lines & C-Scheme in Jaipur for surprise finds in nooks and crannies. Jodhpur is actually a hub for furniture manufacturing and if you are doing up your complete home , it makes sense to visit a few factories , check and calculate shipping them back home.
But in all probability you ain’t looking at this as an answer from me. You want a hassle free solution from the comfort of your couch. Or while scrolling through Instagram maybe. And with our fast paced dynamic lives today, I totally understand this.
Thankfully our furniture retail space has matured and numerous home grown brands have burgeoned in the last decade or less for us to choose an array of stunning styles and timeless furniture pieces that offer good quality.
Here is my compilation of 5 such brand recommendations that do really interesting furniture specially if you are on the lookout for country & farmhouse style furniture. Consider them if you are looking for someone who can make quality pieces and ship them all the way to your doorstep without you having to go anywhere.

If you are among those 100 people who asked me about my Rattan bench only to be disappointed when I said the carpenter made it a decade ago then let me share some great news. Last year I was invited over by Freedom Tree to their new store in Hyderabad and boy was I impressed. I have followed along their Page for some time now and have loved their crockery and fun prints and colours. But this time I had the opportunity to see , touch and feel everything in person and the furniture really caught my attention. If your style is more mid-century and Bohemian , look no where else this is the place. They also have a wide range of upholstery fabrics for you to choose and customise from. Find them Here

Inspired by old world charm of the yesteryears this brand has an interesting array of solid wood Furniture with lot of Character. The rustic knobs , intricate carved details all remind me of the forgotten past and an erstwhile Haveli somewhere in those winding narrow lanes . And so I hope this answers that question, but am sure with India’s rich history of heritage & craftsmanship, every city also has their own set of special stores just waiting to be discovered. So if you can step out try to explore, you never know there might be an old Antique store or a very skilled workshop just around the corner where you would find a real gem.
