I took to this blog in early January and imagine just couldn’t get around to complete it. Yup the last few months have been tough on my health and running around , multitasking has been the norm. I guess age is catching up but I am all parts determined to work on my health this year with full dedication. So eating right , walking , yoga , taking my vitamins has been the centre of focus to begin with.
But over and above all this is mindfulness and mental health. I have come to realise our health is a direct reflection of our state of mind and I have been struggling there for a few years now. To begin with I highly value my work and do it with utter dedication but the social media space started to wear off on me lately. I had to reflect on the how’s & what’s , whether me creating with so much effort bears any impact and pays me fairly to be able to sustain this Freelance life. Or is this just a hobby & a side gig with little to it.
Going back to times where I actually made lists for everything from monthly budgeting to annual travel plans , and other expenses and upgrades and investments in life. That basically allowed me to spend mindfully with a lot of thought. I am the kind of person who believes every purchase should be thought off considerably , less is more and getting things that really are their worth.
I would rather invest in a stellar couch that lasts me for decades than get dozens of cushions and spend my hard earned mullah mindlessly. Its just how I am. There are days offcourse when I slip and give in to little temptations because I am only human.
Anyways after this long monologue lets get to the point so…
Here’s what’s on my Home Decor lustlist for 2023. Some things may seem out of reach right now but ” A girl can dream right ”
A Grandpa’s Rocking Chair
For long I have admired those Windsor rocking chairs and imagined myself sitting in a patio covered with greens and blooms knitting away something. While I still can’t manage to knit or for that matter even hold needles the right way , I still hope I get to rock on a grandpa chair reading a nice book and sipping some chamomile. May be I would doze off and Mr would come throw a blanket atop me. But yes to say , a vintage rocking chair is high up on my lust list ladies and gentlemen.
CeiLING to Floor Book Shelf
Well this is a lifetime goal honestly but whenever we settle down in our own home the first thing I would build would be my ceiling to floor book shelf. I am quite sure if I live enough and in my sixties or seventies I would be that annoying old woman who likes being home bound. Who doesn’t care about the outside world or attending social gatherings and has her own sanctuary within her home. Netflix Marathons ain’t for me now so I cannot even imagine getting into them in my old days. But my own Library and Garden is what 99.9% of my dreams are made of I guarantee you. There I said it.
An Antique Brass Floor Lamp
I saw this one picture of a gorgeous vintage brass floor lamp and have my eyes set on it since last year. And this is quite achievable I guess, kinda looking everywhere to find something similar. I don’t want the fairly modern ones that’s for sure. An old inverted lamp with a pleated scalloped shade and adjustable height, little details on the Brass, a bit tarnished is what’s really on the mind.
A Mediterranean Urn/Amphora Vase
Last year we had to cancel our much coveted trip to Provence due to a complete goofup by the Visa agency and French Consulate. And it broke my heart I was so looking forward to this trip that I felt hopeless and was at loss of words for months nevertheless I hope I can make it there this year and manage to thrift a Vintage Mediterranean Style Urn or an Amphora Vase (The Terracotta ones with those handles) . The real challenge however will be how will I manage to lug it all the way back to India even if I do find one. Well we will have to wait and see what say.
Spode Teacups
I have these Blue Italian Teacup set bookmarked for quite some time on their USA site. And every now and then I see if there is a good offer or deal coming by. I love these but they are little off my budget honestly but nevertheless no harm in dreaming and working hard for it along with convincing my cousin to carry them back if and when I get a good deal on them. Now you get why I feel so strongly about fair wages for Photographers in India. As much as its a passion hobby it cannot be treated minuscule specially when you train yourselves for hours and put in all the work and dream about expensive china.
That’s about it My lovely lust List for 2023. It kind of feels nice to put it out there , I don’t know why but it does. I would really love to hear if you have one too, what’s on your lust list this year.
Love,
Kamakshi
