Have you been thinking about throwing a Christmas lunch or dinner lately. I am quite certain you have browsed through some incredible ideas on Pinterest just like me and ogled at them thinking someday but also found it overwhelming with so many ideas and choices.
The internet is full of millions of Ideas for Christmas Decor & Table setting that range from Level 1 to Level 10 and I would place mine somewhere on the lower end when it comes to effort or ease of execution say 2 or 3 but the end result is still a 10 I promise.
In fact my fellow creators on Instagram have done some fabulous ones and I really wanted to compile their stunning Tablescapes into one blog but as usual I run out of time every year. But lets park that for next year.
Step 1. Choose your Linens
This one’s easy just look into your Table Linen cupboard and choose your Linens , A Tablecloth or a Table Runner , some placemats and Napkins. Since the theme is Christmas try and choose something from the Christmas colour Palette or something that would compliment these colours well – Whites , Reds , Greens are a given but you could very well choose Blues or even Beige.
For this Tablescape I let forego the Tablecover for a change accentuating my wooden Table and its grains and used only a Table Runner in white & sage green. The Table runner is from Ellementry.
Within my Napkin selection I had these old Anokhi Block print Napkins with a bit of orange red going on and another set of Red & White stripes which I had used last year.
My limited crockery collection as of now is in whites & creams so I needed to add a bit of cheer with a quintessential Christmas colour by adding a striking Red Napkin. But if you are doing a neutral Table you could just stick with Greens & Whites with lots of candles too and keep it very understated and sophisticated even.
Step 2. Choose Your Crockery
Now this step is actually something that ideally we need to club with step one. Have anything Christmas themed take them, see if you want to mix and match or just go with plains. And the reason I say its better to choose the Linens and Crockery together is to see what compliments each other and makes a good contrast yet a very cohesive and pulled together.
I didn’t use any placemats or charger plates for this and just opted for a plane white Plate instead. Just to break all the Reds , Greens and wood tones playing in. The Pasta bowls with a hint of Red were perfect for this Christmas Table setting. They are from Freedom Tree Home.
Step 3. Choose your Cutlery & Glassware
This one’s pretty simple if you have something in Christmas theme or colours now is the time to use them if not take a look at your glassware , any coloured glassware there that blends in. Choose them. If you are a minimalist like us go ahead with your fluted stemware , vintage cut glass, crystal or anything else that you have been hoarding, like even brass or copper metal ones would look absolute smashing. The choice also depends on the meal you serve , are you serving wine or champagne etc this is quite obvious isn’t it. Since we weren’t having wine this day and it was rather a simple sit down meal for just the two of us I took my La – Rochere Glasses that I absolutely love.
The cutlery could be gold or silver but I would sway a bit more on the gold because its Christmas, get the placement right and keep it simple according to the meal menu in mind. I am not a fan of multiple sets of spoons, forks and knives like Pretty woman that can lead to confusion for some guests. So keep it basic, Keep it simple and let the food shine more. These gold ones are from Westside Home
Step 4 The Centerpiece
The most fun bit and this is where we can let loose all our creativity and actually bring in the real Christmas cheer. This very well can be or should be step 1 actually. Brainstorm a little on ideas and stuff that remind you of Christmas and can look beautiful as a center piece on your table. It could be something as simple as a over head branch with greenery and fairy lights, some table top Christmas trees , a bouquet of winter greens layered with candles, may be a row of cute gingerbread or christmas houses or in my case a stack of Christmas Baubles in varying shapes and sizes and some winter fruits to add colour like Apples, Oranges and Pomegranate work so well. Use whats available to you , what fits on your table, and your budget. It should also leave ample room for food too. In the end if it looks appealing to the eye its great as simple as that.
That’s it fellas your Christmas theme Table is all set and waiting for your guests to enjoy and appreciate. Ok I forgot but adding a bowl of Truffles is customary. I am not coming if you don’t offer me Chocolates on Christmas ๐
