I have always loved doing up spaces since I was a little girl whether it was about hanging Tom Cruise’s Top Gun poster over my bedroom wall or getting an exclusive Bookcase made or chewing Dad’s head to make a mock fireplace at our Jaipur Home. But never ever have I decorated for seasons honestly exception being Diwali that too post marriage strictly.
” The little festive decorations from Rangoli art to Flower decorations were always carried out by Mom and I never really lent a helping hand honestly till the time some yelling came my way ”
Ok not digressing and coming to the core point my decor game has rather gone up 10x times since last year like many of us and so I decorated for fall this year for the very first time and hence the blog. Now the concept has been catching up in India too and we might as well join the pumpkin party wholeheartedly and not let FOMO sneak in . But truth be told it is indeed a beautiful time, this time of the year and the colors in the Mountains are insanely pretty too whether or not you like decorating there is something about this time undoubtedly. There are so many places I yearn to go to when I do get to travel only and only to witness Fall Colors and Foliage. But till that happens here are some easy ways you can decorate your homes with easy crafts without spending a dime or fortune yeah no money was spent here.
DIY Fabric Pumpkins
Honestly I didn’t want to buy any seasonal decor , I live in a small apartment and my Table Tops and Dressers are already full , adding anything more was way too much management & clutter to handle and a lot more dusting too. So I googled and came across DIY pumpkins from leftover fabrics, towels, socks and any piece of cloth that one could get hands on. I looked around the house to find some checks and textured fabrics , found a piece of unused shirting and an Ikea Kitchen towel. Thats it some thread and needle and a wood stick from the garden does it.
I have a full tutorial video on my Instagram if you would like to watch linking it here LINK TO DIY FABRIC PUMPKIN TUTORIAL . Ideally make three or more but the not so DIY friendly person in me lost patience and we just had two cute fat pumpkins (chalega I guess). I placed these on a wooden platter with some straw grass that came with some packaging to make a pretty little vignette. If you know how to knit , you could even knit some they look so adorable and I am going to definitely ask my mother in law to knit a few for me soon.
Pressed Leaf/Flower Frames
These are my types of DIY , take less time, involve foraging and collecting leafs and flowers from random places and then making things out of them. To be honest I have been wanting to do this since last year but couldn’t decide what my third leaf would be so it look a backseat, I have now kind-off decided and once I get my hands on the third leaf , I will add that to the wall too. But here is a picture of my DIY Pressed Leaf Wall Art, I used old frames lying in the house so no money spent. All you have to do really is press your favourite foliage into heavy books I would say for a month and then arrange them into your favourite frames and hang up, sit and admire. Cant get easier I swear !
Fall Chalkboard Art
Now you could debate here that you don’t have a chalkboard at all but I do and I absolutely love it and recommend it to all decor enthusiasts. Its so versatile and chick I can even right Happy Diwali , Dhanteras & Merry Christmas right after Fall or Put up food menu, house rules endless endless possibilities with this one. You could even DIY a chalkboard yourself on a wooden plank honestly , you get chalkboard stickers in every stationary shop just stick them on the wooden plank and you have your own chalkboard ready. I suck at drawing and the man in the house is quite good so I asked him to draw me pumpkins and some HELLO FALL and he agreed after a few weeks of persuading . Fresh cottage country vibes right there within an hour.
Make a Fall Bouquet or Wreath
Just like Pumpkins galore you would see tons of dry flower bouquets and wreath ideas online. You have to type this word on Pinterest and see for yourself its a swarm out there. You can either make one yourself or buy some gorgeous ones online at Champfleur or even Amazon. If you have access to some harvest nearby or like foraging like me find unique foliage & flowers and air dry them. You can dry Roses, Baby Breath , Millet Stems, Wheat stems and tons of other things. For Fall I would suggest keeping the color tones more towards Ombré, Amber, Rusts , Mustards and neutrals. So choose Flowers and Foliage that have these tones. If you are drying them yourself refer this handy guide I did on How to go about drying flowers at Home the right way.
How do you like these Fall Decorating Ideas. Which one is your Favourite tell me, I would love to hear !
There are also few other things that I did , in fact few things that I bought were a gorgeous Faux Fall bouquet, A Maple wreath , some Winter Vegetable art that is my absolute favourite from the lot but I am yet to frame them. I haven’t included refreshing your Furnishings & laying rust throws and plaids because unless you have them in your Linen Cupboard buying them could get a bit pricy but if you do then take them out and throw little pops of Fall colors through soft furnishings. I will try and do a separate blog on that. The ones I talk above are almost on zero budget so if you are wondering where to start or don’t want to spend, start right here. “Light up a cedar wood candle my absolute must this season and chill with a hot cuppa and a good book, that’s the true essence of an epic Fall “
I am off to scrolling Pinterest aimlessly now. Favourite time pass forever.
much love ,
Kamakshi
